Literally. This week I decided to take a break from the sales floor and do overnights for visuals at the Gap again. It's exhausting staying up all night (especially for someone like me who's favorite thing to do is sleep), but it's my favorite part about working at the Gap. I didn't realize how different it would be to work for a bigger store so close to a corporate office, but I'm glad I could transfer stores and I'm adjusting well to the different atmosphere!
I've been working 7 days a week, 3 at my internship and 4 at the Gap. It's tiring, but that's what I was prepared to do when I moved here. Even though I'm working every day, it's so much better knowing that I'm earning my status here on my own, just like the rest of the people in New York. I knew I'd have to be a starving artist before I made it big...that will just make my E! True Hollywood Story more interesting.
My internship is going well, and I'm definitely learning a lot of different things that go into fashion, not just design. It gets a little crazy some days, seeing as there are only 6 female employees and sometimes things can get tense. But I'm just excited to learn and to actually be involved in fashion design again (although it would be nice to get a free lunch).
And don't worry everyone, I'm coming home soon to see you all! Although I love this city, there's nothing quite like the Lou. I've definitely missed the St. Louis atmosphere (and the cheaper prices on clothes, food, and everything else), but I'm of course most excited to see my family and friends. So if you're in STL/Southern Illinois around Christmas, I expect you'll be stopping by to see me.
xoxo,
Ms. Manhattan
