In honor of Homecoming this weekend, I thought I'd blog a little about Carbondale. When I try to describe this one in a million town, people here don't seem to understand. I tell them about Winston, an old man who sits outside of the bars and serves you bagels with a pound of butter on them. I tell them about Unofficial and Polar Bear, about how there is a building designed specifically for people to hide inside in case there are any riots. I tell them about the riot I actually witnessed and had a panic attack during. But no stories can actually depict what this strange town is really like unless you've seen it yourself....and the same goes for my new city.
I never thought I'd miss things in Carbondale! But here are just a few:
- Quatro's pizza...I have yet to have a slice in New York as good as yours! Please come and open up a store here, I will personally fund it.
-My huge apartment. I miss lounging on the couch and being able to do a full workout with my roommate in our living room. Plus I got a free pool, gym, parking. The only thing that hasn't changed is I still live below an elephant.
-Being a student. For all of you who say you can't wait to graduate...you will eat those words about 3 months after. You can call me a geek, but I miss classes, the daily routine, being on campus...it's so much easier than being on your own!
But all of these things don't compare to how much I miss my friends! When I first started at Carbondale, I had no idea what the reputation of the school was. The first night I realized it was a self-proclaimed "party school"...and I had a complete meltdown and thought I would transfer immediately. But I met the most amazing people there. Don't get me wrong, I would never chose living there over New York (LOL.) But I'm glad I had the experiences I had, and I hope my friends still there will cherish their time there and enjoy it, because I've never experienced anything quite like it. So just know, whenever I'm walking around the streets of New York in my new life, I'm always thinking about you, Carbondale.
