I've been an East Side girl since Gossip Girl graced us with its presence. And living in the Upper East Side and now Queens really makes it pointless to ever go over to the West. The only time I've spent a lot of time past 5th Ave was to go to Trader Joe's (why they don't have one on the Upper East Side is beyond me), the Garment District, and of course to the West Village. Thanks to Taylor's visit this past weekend, I ventured over to the Upper West Side, among the usual touristy things I've done before.
We went to the Comedy Cellar on Saturday night in the West Village and laughed our asses off to comedians including the guy from Cash Cab and one of the writers on SNL. *fangirl* On Sunday, we must have walked over 20 miles between walking around Columbia University pretending to be students so I could ogle at the beautiful campus, eating at Tom's Restaurant from Seinfeld, visiting Riverside Park, walking all of the High Line, and visiting Chelsea Market. I have a new appreciation for the West Side (although still not as great as East), and allowed myself to cross 100th street, which is apparently a safe area if you're on the West side.
I walked the Brooklyn Bridge again which still remains my favorite thing to do in New York. I don't think anything can compare to seeing the city from across the water at night--it's breathtaking. And overall this weekend was exactly what I needed to remind myself why I love it here and that bigger things are to come for me, especially if I try new things and venture out of my usual path every now and then. It's funny how even in such a gigantic city, things can still become "the usual" and be very repetitive every day. I need to remind myself to explore more often. There are some pretty cool things in this city I haven't discovered yet, just waiting to open up my world.
xoxo,
Ms. Manhattan
