I've had an extremely exciting and busy week -- 7 interviews last week, 4 so far this week. Most of the interviews have been with recruiters...basically people who get paid to find you a job. Sounds perfect to me. I've also had 2 interviews for design positions, so I'd say I'm in a good spot. I just need to find the perfect job for me.
Here's some advice for you kids sill in school: The Real World is not as scary as they make it seem. Yes, I'm outside my comfort zone a lot with interviews and contacting people I've never met before. But the more you interview and get your name out there, the less scary it is. You have to dive head first into it and stay motivated until you find what you want. No one is going to find a job for you, so the only way to get one is to do it yourself. Nothing great ever comes easy, remember that.
I'm excited to report I finally started earning some money! I started my first shift back at the Gap...an overnight shift! 10pm-7am seemed scary, but 3 Dr. Peppers and 9 hours later I emerged back to the outside world in one piece. Although I miss my old store, it's so exciting working in a huge store with window displays that are seen by thousands of people everyday. I will miss going to Bread Co. on my breaks, but I'm so excited to work for Gap still while I find my dream job.
I'm still in love with this city, and so happy to have a busy week ahead for me. I would say the stress of the job hunt and unemployment is what you kids call "The Struggle"... but nothing can really bring me down when I'm in the best city in the world. All I need to do now is find a job... and to finally try real New York pizza.
xoxo,
Ms. Manhattan
