I think I started to let this crazy year get the best of me. It's been up and down, really since I moved here. With every new, exciting experience, I am confronted with a horribly stressful one. But I am determined to make the rest of 2014 amazing.
I started working at my new Gap, which is 3 blocks away from my apartment. It is so amazing to be able to sleep in, go to work, and if necessary have my lunch break at my actual house. Not only is the location great, but my GM is a woman. I've never had a female GM, and after the last rude and verbally abusive one I am so happy to be with a nice and friendly team of managers. It's obvious that a positive work environment makes for positive workers, because I have already sold 4 Gap cards in only 3 shifts. Although I miss the people I used to work with, I am loving my new Gap and finally not feeling miserable going there. Working 7 days a week isn't so awful anymore, knowing at least my weekends won't be as draining.
I've also been kept very busy with Alpha Gamma Delta lately, having a lot of meetings as an advisor and hanging out with the Junior Circle. I can't describe how fulfilling it is to be an advisor and be involved again; it's a scary and exciting feeling knowing that I can be involved, but this time I'm guiding and helping to build these women like some of my advisors were able to do for me. The chapter is a great group of girls, all so nice and welcoming, and I truly love being able to be there for guidance. I don't know where I would be in this city if it weren't for Alpha Gam. I've met some good friends through the Junior Circle and most of my plans involve something or someone with AGD. Moving to a city knowing absolutely no one was so scary, but being in a sorority made it so much easier. In a city full of crazies, it's nice to know there's at least 100 or so people that have to be at least a little normal if they were in Alpha Gam. Who needs MeetUp when you've got your sisters?
I can already feel winter coming, but in a good way. Twinkle lights are up and hot chocolate is on sale, and everything is smelling like pumpkin and cinnamon. Besides the fact that my radiator won't turn on (space heater for back up), I am going to make this transition to winter much more elegant and prepared than last year. I've got new sweaters, warmer boots, and plenty of airborne to prevent another flu. I'm ready for you winter--bring it on (and let's try for a White Christmas, shall we?).
xoxo,
Ms. Manhattan
